FIND YOUR SILVER LINING!

BEING AN OPTIMIST CAN HELP YOU TO LIVE LONGER

Studies are showing that possessing higher levels of optimism is beneficial to your overall health and well-being, and is linked to a healthy heart and can assist in the prevention of diseases.

A study completed by the Duke University Medical Center, examined cardiac patients, and their levels of optimism regarding their recovery in relation to their current state of physical health.

Results show that cardiac patients with optimistic expectations about their recovery were 30 percent less likely to die over the next 15 years than patients with less optimistic expectations. Showing that one’s outlook has a sizable effect on physical health and survival.

** Optimists have lower blood pressure, which

reduces their risk of coronary artery disease**

Why does having a positive outlook increase health?

Those who show higher levels of optimism, use more effective coping strategies, understand the long term benefits of their treatment plans, they have healthier behavior traits; healthy diet and exercise program, and have a social network that will have a positive impact on their recovery. Leading us to the theory that negative thoughts can lead to tension and stress, which we know has damaging physiological effects.

The take home:

Having a positive outlook on your life, and the events that unfold in your daily life, will not only make you feel emotionally better, but also potentially live longer.
